Tax Preparation Process


Filing Deadline

The filing deadline this year is, Thursday, April 15, 2021.
Our estimated turnaround time after receiving everything we need is 7-10 days.  Sometimes they will be completed much sooner.  Other times, due to ever-increasing regulations and tremendous amount of important work to be handled within a very short time, it may take longer.  We will keep you informed along the way should we require additional time.
All tax documentation must be received by Thursday, April 1, 2021 for us to guarantee an on-time filing.  If you cannot meet this deadline, you will need to file an extension.  If you want us to file it, please contact the office and we will send you the necessary documentation.  Keep in mind that an extension is only good if you pre-pay any estimated taxes due.  Therefore, we will need some information from you to make this estimate so you can pay it with the extension.  


Appointments


Although we will not hold in-person meetings this year out of an abundance of caution, we will be available by telephone or Zoom.   Zoom is quite simple; all you need is an email address for us to send you an invitation.  Click here for a step-by-step instruction on Zoom calls.

Drop Off , Mail, or Secure Client Portal 
If you drop off your tax documents, we ask that you place those documents in the USPS envelope we mailed out to you which can obviously also be used to mail your documents if you choose.  In that envelope you should insert your Tax Preference Options sheet.  If you prefer to send documents electronically and you have not done so before, you can register for a Secure Client Portal Account by going to our website at http://www.lakeshoretax.com/quick-send.php.

When Tax Returns Are Complete…
We will notify you as you instructed in the Tax Preference Options.  We will have your tax return copy available for pick-up or other delivery, again, as you instruct us in the Tax Preference Options

You will also instruct us on your preferred method of signing Form 8879, necessary to electronically file your tax returns.  We can mail it to you for manual signature(s) or email you a DocuSign link allowing you to provide an eSignature.

For invoice payment, you can opt to write a check and send/drop off or you can receive an invoice via email and pay online.  To minimize exposure in our lobby, we will not accept payments at the counter this year. For more information on Terms and Fees click here.
   
Lastly, when you receive your copy of the tax returns, please take a moment to review them. We ALWAYS want you to understand your tax returns and feel comfortable about the information being filed. If you have questions or concerns, we will provide an explanation via letter or telephone. 

Tax returns will be e-filed once Form 8879 signature(s) are in place and invoice is settled.
